The three layers of design for user-centered dashboards

April 24, 2023 @ 12:00 - 15:00

Session description

Designing dashboards can be split into three layers:

  • the overall structure,
  • a dashboard page/ tab,
  • and each individual graph.

During this 3 hours session we have an hour for each layer. Starting at the overall structure, we will work on building a wireframe to structure the information, getting to know our audience and work on incorporating your company style.

In the second hour we focus on the dashboard tab. Where do you place the dashboard elements? Do you use navigation, and what filtertype fits your dashboard?

We finish the session on the detailed level of graphs. Everyone has a ‘graph-vocabulary’: we have 5 to 7 graphs that are top of mind. However, there are hundreds of graphs that can help you communicate your key message. In this part of the session we’ll discuss some graph specials, and focus on how you make your graph as effective as possible with some design choices.

We’ll use paper and markers, draw, sketch and have fun!
